UK Steel Enterprise
UK Steel Enterprise Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Corus, aims to improve the economies of areas affected by changes in the steel industry. It helps new and growing businesses with tailored finance and by providing managed business premises.
Nationally, more than 4,300 companies have benefited from UKSE support with around £60m of true risk capital being made available and more than 1,400 businesses houses in managed premises. About 66,000 jobs have been created.
The North of England office covers the areas of Tees Valley, Derwentside, Hartlepool and West Cumbria. UKSE Innovation Centres at Kirkleatham Business Park near Redcar and on Hartlepool's Queens Meadow Business Park currently house around 80 of Tees Valley's most exciting young businesses.
BiG Angels
BiG provides equity finance and business support expertise to established owner-managers, or potential managers, who can demonstrate growth potential, coupled with good management skills or an established track record.
BiG is able to provide equity funding from £10,000 to £1 million and more. BiG will help businesses of any size, and it will syndicate with other financial partners to offer the best total, balanced-funding package.
During the last ten years, BiG has assisted over 41 companies (80 percent of which are still progressing) and has invested more than £12 million. It has created a vital regional funding source. It has given direction to small and medium size enterprises in the 'North East of England' who are looking to start-up or develop their growth. BiG members also assist in developing entry or exit strategies.
Because of BiG's expertise and high profile networking programme, its members are exceptionally well placed to understand the problems of the entrepreneur. BiG members are also able to provide a wide range of professional skills to assist companies, both pre-and post-investment.
NorthStar Equity Investors
NorthStar Equity Investors is a venture capital firm that specialises in early stage high growth technology opportunities. We currently manage two funds focused on investments in the North East of England.
- The £10 million Proof of Concept Fund is targeted at the pre-seed stage of investment, supporting entrepreneurs with up to £90,000
- The £23 million Co-Investment Fund specialises in high growth investments of up to £1.5m and will lead or participate in syndicates
